Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety can feel like a constant companion — a racing mind, tense body, and an inability to fully relax. It may show up as worry that won’t turn off, difficulty sleeping, restlessness, irritability, or physical symptoms like a pounding heart or upset stomach. While some anxiety is a normal part of life, when it becomes overwhelming or persistent, it can interfere with work, relationships, and your ability to enjoy daily life.

The Effect of Anxiety on the Body

Anxiety doesn’t live only in your thoughts — it also impacts the body. Chronic stress can leave your nervous system on high alert, triggering muscle tension, headaches, fatigue, or digestive issues. Over time, this “always on” state can wear you down physically and emotionally. In therapy, we address both the mental and physical aspects of anxiety, helping your body reset and your mind find calm.

At Jessica Muñoz Cohan Psychotherapy, I use a blend of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and other trauma-informed interventions to help you manage and reduce anxiety.
