Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It often shows up as flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive memories, avoidance of reminders, or feeling emotionally numb and disconnected. You may also feel on edge much of the time, constantly scanning for danger, even in safe situations. Living with PTSD can make everyday life exhausting and relationships difficult to maintain.
PTSD doesn’t just affect your mind — it also impacts your body. The nervous system may remain stuck in a “fight, flight, or freeze” response, leaving you tense, restless, or easily startled. Chronic stress hormones can disrupt sleep, digestion, and concentration, and over time, this wear and tear can drain your energy and health. In therapy, we work to calm the nervous system, helping your body and mind shift out of survival mode and back into balance.
At Jessica Muñoz Cohan Psychotherapy, I use a combination of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other trauma-informed interventions to treat PTSD. These methods target both the memories of trauma and the body’s ongoing stress responses, helping you process difficult experiences in a safe and structured way. Together, we focus on reducing symptoms, restoring a sense of safety, and building skills to help you feel more in control of your life.
We are here to help you navigate the healing process. Contact us today, reclaim your well being and empower yourself.
